Abington Health

Founded in 1914, Abington Hospital (AH) is a fully accredited, not-for-profit, 665-bed, regional referral center and teaching hospital, which has been providing comprehensive, high-quality services for people in Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties for more than 100 years. Located at 1200 Old York Road (Route 611) in Abington, PA, AH employs more than 5,500 employees. The hospital’s medical staff consisits of over 1,100 physicians, including primary care, medical and surgical specialists. More than 1,100 volunteers give their time and talents to support this not-for-profit hospital, and AH provides more than $45 million in free care to their community each year. With more than 28,575 inpatient admissions and 604,779 outpatient visits annually, AH is a major regional referral center for cancer care, cardiac care, and surgery and has the only Level II trauma center in Montgomery County. AH has a long tradition of personal, high-quality maternity care and is a leader in senior health services. AH sponsors five residency programs in family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, general surgery, and dentistry. In addition, the hospital provides postgraduate medical education in affiliation with several area medical schools.

Magnet Designation

Abington Hospital was the first acute care hospital in the Philadelphia region to receive Magnet® designation, one of the nation’s highest forms of recognition for nursing excellence and has earned re-designation twice since then. In addition, AH won one of the most presitigious Magnet award, The Magnet® Prize, for the development of the Daily CARE Plan, an individualized care plan given to and reviewed with each patient every day.

Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing

Jefferson Health is the new name of the corporate enterprise. The Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing is owned and operated by Abington Memorial Hospital, now doing business as Abington Health (AH).  The name of the School remains Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing.

Abington Health is the umbrella organization that encompasses its flagship hospital, Abington Hospital in Abington and Lansdale Hospital (LH) in Hatfield Township. Abington Health entities also include convenient multiple outpatient facilities.

Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing will notify the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) of any proposed changes to the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing Philosophy and/or Objectives.
