Applying as a Current High School Senior
Current high school seniors apply before the appropriate application deadline of their senior year. If accepted, the student attends an accredited college/university of his/her choice to finish the 34 credits of required prerequisite courses after high school graduation. (Most students finish these courses in one year.) Upon successful completion of the prerequisites, the student will start nursing courses at Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing the following fall term. Current high school students apply during their Senior year by submitting before the appropriate deadline:
- An application with an application fee
- Official High School transcripts* (see below for details)
- Official SAT scores (see below for recommended scores)
- Two letters of recommendation (Click here to download the recommendation forms.)
Admissions Criteria and Application Deadlines
High school seniors may apply for Early decision or Regular decision. The preferred Admission Criteria and application dates are listed below:
Educational Requirements
All current high school seniors applying for admission must provide official high school transcripts* showing the following:
High School Courses (at least a letter grade of C)
- Required:
- English – 4 units
- Biology with a related laboratory
- Chemistry with a related laboratory
- Mathematics – Algebra I and Algebra II
- Recommended:
- Geometry
- Nutrition
- Word Processing
- Psychology
- Sociology
- Anatomy
- Physiology
- Computer Science
- Foreign language
- Physical, Biological and Behavioral sciences
*Official high school transcripts must have the official high school seal affixed with signature, and must be submitted before the application deadline.
Admission Policy
The Admissions Committee, representing the Faculty of the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing, selects applicants who satisfy the admission criteria and demonstrate the capability of completing the program and becoming registered nurses. The number of students accepted is determined by the committee based on variables, which include the availability of adequate clinical facilities and the faculty to student ratio. Applicants are considered on an individual basis. Written notice of the committee’s decision will be mailed after the decision date.
Application/Acceptance Fees
When filing an application for admission to the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing, each applicant pays an application fee. An electronic payment (through the Bursar tab), check or money order made payable to the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing should be forwarded with the completed application. No refund is made after the application is filed. An acceptance fee is required after notification of acceptance in order to reserve a place in the class. An electronic payment (through the Bursar tab), check or money order made payable to the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing should be forwarded by deadline provided. This fee is non-refundable and is not credited to future tuition payments.
