Applying to Dixon as a Post-Secondary Student
Applicants who have graduated high school or obtained a GED are required to submit all of the following before the appropriate deadline:
An application with an application fee- Official transcripts of ALL post-secondary institutions attended, and showing minimum completion of College prerequisite coursework (Click here for the College Course Reference Grid)
Please Note:
Only Applicants who have completed two lab science prerequisites and three liberal arts courses will be considered for admission. Acceptance would be provisional based on successful completion of the remaining prerequisites prior to starting courses at Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing in the Fall.
- TEAS test scores (click here to access the standardized testing section in our FAQ)
- An official high school transcript, an official GED transcript sent to the school from the issuing state, or a WES (www.wes.org) or ECE evaluation for applicants who attended high school outside of the U.S. (This evaluation must state that the equivalent of a U.S. High School Diploma was awarded.)
- Applicants who are not U.S. Citizens must provide proof of permanent residency

Please Note:
- Applicants who have attended another nursing program MUST submit recommendations from the Director of the Nursing Program and a Clinical Instructor of the previous nursing program (Click here to download the recommendation form for students who have attended another RN program)
- Applicants who are LPNs should submit a reference from the current employer and a faculty member of the LPN program attended.
Admissions Criteria
Applicants may be considered for Early Decision or Regular Decision based on the criteria listed below. An acceptance may be provisional based on completion of college prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better before starting classes at Dixon.
Acceptance of College Credits
Candidates must have obtained a grade of C or better in all college and a grade of C+ in all nursing courses for acceptance/continuance in the program.
- Anatomy and Physiology I & II courses must be taken within five years of starting the nursing curriculum.
- The Admissions Committee of the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing will determine which courses are acceptable to meet these curriculum requirements.
- Candidates may be requested to submit the course title, number, catalog description, syllabus and course outline for a specific course listed on a transcript.
LPN to RN Bridge Opportunity
Applicants who are LPNs are not exempt from any of the Admissions requirements for Post Secondary students and do not follow a separate admissions criteria. However, upon acceptance to the Dixon School of Nursing, applicants who are LPNs may have the opportunity to take an NLN challenge exam to place out of the required course Nursing 199, Fundamentals of Nursing. A current LPN license and at least 1000 work hours as an LPN are required. Admission Policy
The Admissions Committee, representing the Faculty of the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing, selects applicants who satisfy the admission criteria and demonstrate the capability of completing the program and becoming registered nurses. The number of students accepted is determined by the committee based on variables, which include the availability of adequate clinical facilities and the faculty to student ratio. Applicants are considered on an individual basis. Written notice of the committee’s decision will be mailed after the decision date.
Application/Acceptance Fees
When filing an application for admission to the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing, each applicant pays an application fee. An electronic payment (through the Bursar tab), check or money order made payable to the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing should be forwarded with the completed application. No refund is made after the application is filed. An acceptance fee is required after notification of acceptance in order to reserve a place in the class. An electronic payment (through the Bursar tab), check or money order made payable to the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing should be forwarded by deadline provided. This fee is non-refundable and is not credited to future tuition payments.
