Role At Dixon
Mary Stec is a faculty member and coordinator for N301: Nursing Care of the Family, Day Option, Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing. She teaches the courses N301:Nursing Care of the Family and N201: Adult Medical-Surgical Nursing. In addition to her faculty role, Mary serves as the Curriculum Coordinator and is a member of the Curriculum, Systematic Plan of Evaluation and Patient Family Education Committees at Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing.

Professional Experience
Ms. Stec has a wide array of expertise in nursing. From 1975 to 1978, she was a faculty member at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital School of Nursing. From 1984 to 1988, she was a psychiatric mental health nurse at Norristown State Hospital. From 1978 to 1980, she was a medical/surgical staff nurse at Abington Memorial Hospital. In 1988, she became an instructor at the now Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing. Because of her vast experience and expertise, she was asked to write questions for the NCLEX examination, the test to license registered nurses.

Professional Awards and Recognition
She is an evaluator for the National League for Nursing and the recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award (1998). She received the Excellence in Writing Award from the Pennsylvania Nurses Association (1994). She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau.

Personal Interests
She serves as a member of the education committee for St. Elizabeth's school. She has served as a board member for the Society of Pediatric Nursing.

Nursing Education As A Career
Mary Theresa Stec chose nursing as a career because she wanted to promote positive outcomes to patients encountering serious illnesses. She chose to be a nurse educator because she wanted to help students employ these strategies to promote positive outcomes for their own patients. She especially loves the close contact that she has with the students.

It is the role of a nursing educator at Dixon to provide excellent learning opportunities for students at Abington, a state-of-the-art hospital. The educator strives to empower students to care for patients in a confident manner.
